Why increase humidity?

Many indoor plants are native to tropical rainforests where humidity is high. In Australia, household humidity levels are far below optimal, so we need to provide a little additional help! One way to achieve temporary increased humidity is through misting. Succulents are drought-tolerant plants that thrive in dry environments and do not require misting. They enjoy dry, low humidity. Also, avoid spraying, misting, or washing hairy-leaved plants like the African Violet, because water on the crown can cause rot.
